Get To Know GCN
Meet Emma.
This busy mom is a night owl & dog lover who would rather eat in than take out. Emma says her kids, dogs, and chickens, and clients keep her on the go! Emma received her Masters in Counseling from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
Fun Emma Fact: I’m a below average juggler. My kids love it.
Bonus Emma Fact: Parallel parking? Bring it on!
Vacation: beach or mountains?: Mountains
Favorite snack or drink?: Iced lavender latte
You have the house to yourself for an evening, what do you do?: Put my headphones in with an audiobook and either peruse Pinterest for home decor inspiration…or, if the mood strikes, I might redecorate or rearrange a room based on such inspiration. I find a lot of joy in bringing color and personality to our home.
Who/what is your favorite author/book and why? Currently, I’m half-way finished with Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. Even though I am not finished, I think it’s already taken the title of “favorite.” I love the author’s way of describing people and stories. I’m captivated!
What is some thing (or tool) you use in your work that might surprise people? I really enjoy using examples from movies or TV shows to find connection with my clients, or to illustrate a point. I am also trained in the Safe & Sound Protocol, which uses music other help regulate the nervous system.
What do you do to take care of yourself? I have found that regularly carving out time that is unhurried and unscheduled is restorative. Sometimes that means drinking coffee slowly on a Saturday morning; other times it means a mindless wander through Target! I see my own counselor regularly. I listen to music daily, and try to use regular “breath prayers” to keep me in communication with God. Oh, and I use a lot of paper plates! Sometimes taking care of myself means not doing the dishes!
